2015 Edition

„Guitar Evenings” International Festival

Fifth Anniversary Edition

This autumn, from 28th of October to 30th of November, in Bucharest takes place the fifth anniversary edition of the “Guitar Evenings” International Festival, a project of Kitharalogos Cultural Association: 8 concerts, 4 masterclasses, 1 conference.

The headlines of this year are the concerts of two world-renowned artists: Carlo Marchione and Gabriel Bianco, who will perform in the “George Enescu” Concert Hall of the National University of Music from Bucharest.

The Romanian guitarists Costin Soare, Bogdan Mihăilescu and the guitarist-composer Cătălin Ştefănescu-Pătraşcu will join the musical excursion into the guitar world with concerts at “George Enescu” National Museum and Cervantes Institute. Two concerts with a special flavor were prepared for this year: an archlute duo (Olivia Iancu – Claudiu Lobonţ) with music from Renaissance to Piazzolla and a jazz concert with one of the best Romanian jazz guitarists, Sorin Romanescu. The opening concert will have a special guest, the flutist Ion Bogdan Ştefănescu, one of the most appreciated Romanian artists, a versatile performer who plays a gold flute made by Muramatsu, who will play together with the guitarist Costin Soare a program with music by Bach, Händel, Scarlatti, Bártok, Machado and Tadic.

An extraordinary gala with four of the best youngsters of the Romanian guitar world (Dominic Mihăilescu, Helga Leea Cristescu, Alexandru Grecu, Mihail Petre) will take place in Suţu Palace, located in the center of the town, where under the auspices of the ACCUMM Foundation and with the support of D’Addario Foundation and Aperto, the performers will receive prizes for their exceptional activity, an important part of the Kitharalogos project which supports and promotes the young talents.

The main theme of the festival is the anniversary of 330 years since the birth of three musical geniuses – Bach, Händel and Scarlatti, each concert presenting at least one work of one of the three composers. Another important part of the project is to stimulate the new generation of Romanian composers to write for guitar, unfortunately still too much neglected in here; there are two festival comissions for guitar duo: „Campanula” by Gabriel Mălăncioiu and „Gerar” by Cătălin Ştefănescu-Pătraşcu. Four masterclasses will be held at the National University of Music from Bucharest and at the “Dinu Lipatti” National Art College; also, on 15 of November, Carlo Marchione and Cătălin Ştefănescu-Pătraşcu will discuss musical-guitaristic matters at a conference held at the National University of Music.
